Open-wheeler ace debuts in Gtechniq V8 SuperUte

Open-wheeler winner Ryan How will debut in the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series this year as the Victorian steps back into tin tops after a successful stint in F3.

Driving the #125 Ford Ranger formelry driven by Gerard Maggs, the 22-year-old will run with support from Gtechniq all season with the car being run out of the Sieders Racing fold.

Last year, How finished second outright in Australian Formula Open aboard a Dallara F3, narrowly missing out in the title-decider at Phillip Island in November.

A former Ricciardo’s Racers driver, How was one of few drivers in the country to be given special dispensation to race at age 14 in an Audi R8 before competing and winning in the Australian GT Trophy Series in 2018. How came into his own in F3 where last year he claimed three round wins and the coveted Errol Gilmour Memorial Cup at Queensland Raceway.

“While I loved racing an F3 last year and I’m truly grateful for all I learnt as part of the AFO series with Tim Macrow Racing, it’s time to jump into something new so that I can develop my race craft and grow my racing career further,” said How.

“The last time I raced a car that wasn’t an open-wheeler was in the Australian GT Trophy Series in 2019 so it will be a whole new experience in the V8 SuperUte but I had a test at Sydney Motorsport Park recently and I was surprised how much feedback it gives! The V8 SuperUte is all mechanical grip so there’s no high speed downforce like the F3 and you really need to hustle to keep it straight. The Ford Ranger is going to be a handful but a lot of fun I can tell. I can’t thank Gtechniq enough for their support in 2024 and am totally focussed on making this year as successful as possible.”

Round 1 of the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series kicks off at the Thrifty Bathurst 500, Mount Panorama, from February 23-25, 2024. All races in 2024 will be broadcast on FoxSports and Kayo once again, while there will be free-to-air television on the Seven Network for select races at the Thrifty Bathurst 500, Darwin, Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast events.
