Ben Walsh leads the way after practice on the Gold Coast

Fat Freddy’s driver Ben “The Jet” Walsh has taken opening honours on the streets of the Gold Coast after setting the fastest time in practice for the Haltech V8 SuperUtes Series.

For most of the session returning series winner Ryal “The Kid” Harris led the way in the Super Butcher Ford Ranger, but his time was lowered by Walsh at a 1m 25.872s as current leader in the title race Aaron “A A Ron” Borg was second 0.075s behind in the ACDelco Sieders Racing Team Holden Colorado.

Harris ended the session third by 0.274s behind as David “Sideways” Sieders in the Sieders Racing Team Mitsubishi Triton was fourth ahead of Western Sydney Motorsport’s Craig “Big Sexy” Woods in the team’s second Toyota Hilux.

Abcor Racing’s Rohan “Silver Fox” Barry followed in his Hilux from the World’s Best Technology Mitsubishi of Jaiden “Boy Wonder” Maggs, the Go Sunny Solar Holden Colorado of George “El Gringo” Gutierrez, series returnee Harry ”Styles” Gray replacing Craig Dontas in the Ryco 24.7 Racing Triton and Chris “Jazz Hands” Formosa driving the Allgate Motorsport Ford Ranger completed the top 10.

Behind was David “Mudflap” Casey in the Bendix Racing Isuzu D-Max, but a throttle problem hampered his session.

The City Rural Insurance Brokers Mazda BT-50 of Richard “Grey Gonads” Mork led Gold Coast debutant Ellexandra Best in the Best Leisure Industries Mitsubishi Triton and the Gates JKD Racing team Toyota Hilux of Dean “The Professor” Brooking to complete the field.

Qualifying continues the Haltech V8 SuperUtes Series the action on the Gold Coast today at 1:35pm AEST (2:35pm AEDT).
