Jayden Wanzek and Cody Brewczynski have claimed a win apiece on Saturday (11 October) during Round 5 of the 2025 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series, as the category celebrated its 150th race in the current V8 format.
Wanzek (#90 Carryboy Racing Mitsubishi Triton) took his second Bathurst race win – his first being at Bathurst in 2024 – fighting his way from fifth during the reverse grid Race 2. While Adam Marjoram (#1 Team Motion Racing Isuzu D-Max) greeted the chequered flag first in Race 3, a post race penalty relegated the reigning champion back to seventh in the final results, handing second-placed Breczynski the win.
Both races were interrupted by Safety Car periods. In Race 2, Luke Webber (#26 O’Brien AutoGlass Mazda BT-50) and Dave Casey (#782 SEVEN82MOTORS Mitsubishi Triton) made contact at Murray’s Corner, sending Casey’s Triton into the gravel before rolling twice and landing on all four wheels. Casey walked away from the incident and was cleared by medical, while the Sieders Racing Team worked frantically to get the Triton ready for Race 3 later in the afternoon. Webber was handed a 30-second penalty for causing the incident.
In Race 2, the Safety Car was called on the opening lap after a multi-car tangle at Griffin’s Bend, leaving Amar Sharma (#9 City Rural Insurance Brokers Mazda BT-50), Webber, and Scott Taylor (#222 Scott Taylor Motorsport Ford Ranger) with damage and unable to finish the race.
Wanzek started the reverse grid Race 2 in the mid-pack and made steady progress through the field before taking control of the race on lap five. Marjoram finished second after moving up from seventh on the grid, while Adrian Cottrell (#41 3D SiteWorx Racing Holden Colorado) completed the podium in third for his best result of the season.
Jimmy Vernon (#50 Team Ultima Mitsubishi Triton) converted his first Bathurst pole position start into an early race lead before crossing the line fourth, ahead of David Sieders (#3 Yuasa Batteries Racing Mazda BT-50), who gained five positions to finish fifth.
Cody Brewczynski was sixth after clipping the wall while trying to complete an early pass and damaging the steering of the #18 Wanless / Custom Lithium Toyota HiLux. Rossi Johnson (#333 Shorebarge Holden Colorado) and Craig Woods (#64 Western Sydney Motorsport Toyota Hilux) finished seventh and eighth. Holly Espray (#777 Uniden HER Isuzu D-MAX) led the opening laps and battled hard with Vernon for the lead before finishing ninth, while Jason Norris (#8 Auto Masters Racing Toyota Hilux) rounded out the top ten.
Brad Vereker moved up seven positions to be awarded the Yusasa Batteries Australia Hard Charger Award, while Wanzek set the fastest lap of the session with a time of 2m29.4158s. Aaron Borg (#4 Team Motion Racing Isuzu D-MAX) retired from the race on lap six due to a broken input drive shaft while also battling steering damage from earlier contact, while Jensen Engelhardt (#805 AIV Racing Toyota Hilux) received a five-second penalty for a jump start before also retiring early.
Ellexandra Best (#76 Best Leisure Industries Mazda BT-50) celebrated her 90th Tyrepower V8 SuperUtes race Saturday morning, finishing 17th, after narrowly avoiding contact with Taylor as he ran wide and spun off the track.
For Race 3, trouble started early as the field ran through the Tyrepower Cutting, as Taylor made contact with Borg towards Reid Park as the #222 tried to make a move up the inside. Amar Sharma (#9 City Rural Insurance Brokers Mazda BT-50) and Luke Webber (#26 O’Brien AutoGlass Mazda BT-50) were caught in the flow-on effects, with the incident bringing out the Safety Car, which remained on track for three laps while damaged vehicles were recovered.
Sieders held the lead at the restart, but tagged the back of Brewczynski’s HiLux as the latter made a pass for the lead, opening a gap for Marjoram to shoot through. Bewczynski would go on to finish second, with Sieders third. Wanzek and Johnson rounded out the top five. Stewards investigations post-race determined Marjoram was observed changing direction multiple times between Turns 19 and Turn 20 and was given a 5-second penalty. This promoted Brewczynski to first, followed by David Sieders and Jayden Wanzek.
Sherwell was on for a personal best finish before plucking the wrong gear coming out of The Chase and recovered to 19th, while returning racer Matt Nolan moved up seven positions to claim the Yusa Batteries Australia Hard Charger Award for the session.
The final race of Round 5 of the 2025 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series will be broadcast live on Fox Sports, Kayo and Channel 7 from 7.55am AEDT on Sunday, 12 October.
