TWO V8 SUPERUTES WINNERS FROM TWO RACES SATURDAY AT SYDNEY

The 2025 season has barely begun, and the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series drivers have come out of the box swinging, where Carryboy Racing’s Jayden Wanzek and Yuasa Batteries Racing’s David Sieders both claimed victories across the day.

Jayden Wanzek (#90 Mitsubishi Triton) took his second career series win in the reverse-grid Race 2. Taking the lead from the start over pole-sitter Adrian Cottrell (#41 Holden Colorado) and again at the restart from an early Safety Car period and commanded the field for the duration of the race.

The Safety Car made its first appearance of the weekend in Race 2, when Dave Casey (#782 Mitsubishi Triton) fired off the track and into the gravel between Turns 3 and 4 after contact with Jimmy Vernon (#50 Mitsubishi Triton). The incident resulted in a retirement for Casey, but the Queenslander was fortunately back on track for Race 3 later in the afternoon.

Wanzek continued to dominate after the restart with just eight minutes remaining, staying well clear of the battle for second and third on the podium raging behind. Cody Brewczynski (#18 Toyota HiLux) was nipping on the heels of Yuasa Batteries Pole Position Award winner David Sieders (#3 Mazda BT-50) for the majority of the session, just edging him out of the way in the dying laps to complete the podium in second and third, respectively.

Holly Espray (#777 Isuzu D-MAX) enjoyed her second strong result of the weekend, crossing the line in seventh just behind the Team Motion Teammates of race one winner Aaron Borg (#4 Isuzu D-MAX) in fifth and Adam Marjoram (#1 Isuzu D-MAX) in sixth.

Jensen Engelhardt (#805 Toyota HiLux) retired early in the race, struck down by a broken axle which the team was able to fix ahead of Race 3, however, the mechanical issues continued in the next race, resulting in a second retirement for the day.

Race 3 delivered quintessential rough-and-tumble Tyrepower V8 SuperUtes racing, with plenty of side-by-side action throughout the session. The weekend’s third outing also proved to be lucky for Sieders, with the Yuasa Batteries Racing driver claiming his first race win since 2023. Sieders led the entire race with Race 1 winner Borg right behind until trouble struck on lap four. The former champion limped into pit lane with smoke billowing from the #4 when an oil line let go where he stayed for the remainder of the race.

It was an equally as happy outing for Brewczynski, who claimed his second second-placed finish of the weekend ahead of Marjoram in third.

Likewise for Cottrell and Vernon (#50 Mitsubishi Triton) in race three who rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Round 1 of the 2025 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series concludes Sunday, 23 February with Race 4 at 12.30pm AEDT at Sydney Motorsport Park as part of the Thrifty Sydney 500, broadcast live on Kayo and Fox Sports Channel 506.
