It was a strong start to George Gutierrez’s V8 SuperUtes Series campaign for the 2022 season.
The South Australian ended the opening round at Symmons Plains Raceway with a podium result in the third race and fourth in the overall points standings on his first visit to the Tasmanian venue to kick off the new season.
Gutierrez was in the battle at the front of the field all weekend in his family team prepared Go Sunny Solar backed Holden Colorado Ute.
In qualifying, Gutierrez set the fourth fastest time to lock in a second row start and finished no lower fifth all weekend. Mixing it up with series regulars.
Following the weekend Gutierrez was proud of his and this family run teams performance over weekend.
“I’m really fortunate to have an amazing group of people around me,” said Gutierrez.
“All weekend, I believed that we as a team at GGM were punching well above our weight, being the sole single-car squad.”
“Best of all I scored my first podium result in SuperUtes in Race 3 and walked away from the weekend fourth in the championship.”
“The racing was so close and fun. Tassie is a hard track to pass on let alone in these big cars!”
Gutierrez finished fourth in the opening race, fifth in the second before fighting his way up to secure the third in Race 3.
The fourth scheduled race of the weekend was abandon after an opening lap crash.
“We were up the pointy end consistently all weekend which proves that we have what it takes. But as always there are a few things we can improve upon.”
“Tasmania was good to us and an awesome track to drive on!”
“Thank you very much to my GGM crew and sponsors. I’m looking forward to visiting Perth for Round 2. Another new track for us to tackle!”
The V8 SuperUtes Series heads to Western Australia for the second round of the series at Barbagallo Raceway, just outside of Perth.
George would like to thank all of his supporters especially Go Sunny Solar, Anytime, Plenti, Delta Crash Repairs and JC Energy.
