MICHAEL SHERWELL RACING TEAMS WITH RENOWNED HUNTER VALLEY ARTIST FOR INDIGENOUS ROUND

Michael Sherwell Racing has today unveiled its indigenous round livery ahead of next week’s betr Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway (June 14-16), the second round of the 2024 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series.

Upper Hunter Valley artist and Wonnarua woman Saretta Fielding, who’s located not far from where MSR is based in Newcastle, has joined forces with MSR to showcase two of her artworks on the #55 Nova Air and Electrical Mitsubishi Triton.

Having recently designed the Newcastle Knights jersey for the 2024 NRL Indigenous Round, Fielding’s artworks will be visible on the roof and tonneau of the V8 SuperUte, with Sherwell excited about his inaugural race event in the NT.

“I’ve never raced at Hidden Valley Raceway but everyone who’s been said it’s one of the best crowds of the year,” said Sherwell. “Being the first time the V8 SuperUtes have raced at Darwin as well, there’s a lot of excitement in the paddock and our Triton being decked out in Saretta’s artwork just makes it stand out so much more. Her work is fantastic and it will be a great opportunity to showcase her stories of the Hunter Valley region of NSW to the communities of the NT.”

Sherwell and Fielding today unveiled the #55 MSR Mitsubishi Triton together at Lions Park Toronto on Lake Macquarie (traditional land of the Awabakal people) with thanks to Aaron Manvell from Altapac who brought the artwork to life by wrapping the V8 SuperUte. The acclaimed Hunter artist expressed her gratitude to share her art with the motorsport community.

“It’s been an exciting journey to have my artwork represented on the Michael Sherwell car for the betr Darwin Triple Crown Indigenous Round,” said Fielding. “It was awesome to meet the team and see what an amazing job they did on the car.”

The Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series hits the track at Hidden Valley Raceway next Friday June 14, before four races across Saturday June 15 and Sunday June 16. All races will be broadcast live on FoxSports 506 and Kayo.

TONNEAU ARTWORK: “WAKOOL KONARA KAUWAI PARAI” – ONE PEOPLE MANY COUNTRY
This artwork shares both the connection of Aboriginal people across country and highlighting their unique diversity and cultural differences. Gathering circles and and the colour palette interwoven enhance strong family and extended family ties. This is representative of the Team being a family team, racing together as one for many years in the past and also just like the V8 SuperUtes as a paddock is one big family on the road, all coming together to compete.

ROOF ARTWORK: “MOB MALANG” – FAMILY TOGETHER
This artwork again shares the story of family and community, highlighting connection and growing together through life, just as all members of the MSR team have done for years together in motorsport. The central circle reflects gathering together of the close family unit as “one mob”. Smaller gathering circles highlight past generations moving into the present family and onto future generations, which is indicative of Michael Sherwell’s extended family that helps prepare the car and team and also his children that are part of the events with him. Songlines on country backdrop acknowledges traditional custodians of the Hunter region where the team is based, with the rising and falling landscape imagery enhancing the Awabakal as the people of the hills and plains upon whose land they live.
