BREWCZYNSKI CLAIMS MAIDEN SERIES POLE AT BATHURST

Wanless Racing’s Cody Brewczynski has claimed his maiden pole position in the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series, clocking the fastest time across both practice and qualifying sessions at a rainy Mount Panorama, Bathurst.

Brewczynski topped Thursday qualifying with a time of 2m29.7793s to take home the Yuasa Pole Position Award, his first in the series, following a strong performance in the earlier practice session where he finished second in the #18 Wanless / Custom Lithium Toyota Hilux behind 2024 Rookie of the Year Jayden Wanzek (#90 Carryboy Racing Mitsubishi Triton).

“It was a really good session for us here on The Mountain – P1, which is my first pole position in the Tyrepower V8 SuperUtes Series,” Brewczynski said.

“It’s really cool to reward the whole Western Sydney Motorsport Team for their hard work in between rounds, rebuilding Woodsy’s [Craig Woods] car, and mine had a fair bit of damage from Townsville as well.

“The track was improving, and it was good to get it on the second-to-last lap. Thanks to Yuasa Batteries for the prize. It will be great to reward the boys with a nice Christmas present at the end of the year. There’s a long weekend ahead, so fingers crossed we can start up the front.”

David Sieders (#3 Yuasa Batteries Racing Mazda BT-50) will join Brewczynski on the front row of the Race 1 grid tomorrow after running in P1 for the majority of the lively 20-minute qualifying session, which saw times tumble and track conditions improve as the session unfolded.

Team Motion Racing’s Adam Marjoram (#1 Isuzu D-Max) and Aaron Borg (#4 Isuzu D-Max) will lock out the second row in third and fourth respectively, with the former setting the fastest time through the middle sector over the top of the Mountain. Brewczynski also lit up in purple across the top in the opening laps.

Both Marjoram and Borg took advantage of the improving track conditions to set their representative times on the final laps as the Mount Panorama circuit began to dry following overnight and early morning rain.

Wanzek showed equally impressive pace to qualify fifth after getting crossed up in the slick conditions coming into Skyline and narrowly avoiding the wall – just moments after a similar hair-raising moment for Marjoram.

Rossi Johnson (#333 Shorebarge Holden Colorado) and Adrian Cottrell (#41 3D SiteWorx Racing Holden Colorado) will start Race 1 in sixth and seventh, ahead of Jimmy Vernon (#50 Team Ultima Mitsubishi Triton) in eighth and Craig Woods (#64 Western Sydney Motorsport Toyota Hilux) in ninth. This weekend marks a triumphant return for Woods, whose Race 2 crash during Round 4 of the season in Townsville ruled the #64 out of contention for the remainder of that event.

Michael Sherwell rounded out the top 10 with a personal best qualifying finish in the #55 Nova Air and Electrical Mitsubishi Triton. Luke Webber (#26 O’Brien AutoGlass Mazda BT-50) qualified just outside the top 10 in 11th, Holly Espray (#777 Uniden HER Isuzu D-Max) 12th, Jason Norris (#8 Auto Masters Racing Toyota Hilux) 13th, Amar Sharma (#9 City Rural Insurance Brokers Mazda BT-50) 14th, and Dave Casey (#782 SEVEN82MOTORS Mitsubishi Triton) 15th.

Earlier during practice, oil from a previous session combined with a damp track from overnight rain made for tricky conditions. Sieders and Marjoram both took turns setting the quickest laps early, with Sieders looking to hold on to the top spot until Wanzek, Brewczynski, and Borg made their presence known on the final lap, finishing second and third behind Wanzek respectively, while Sieders ended up eighth and Marjoram ninth after retiring early with a gearbox issue.

Round 5 of the 2025 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series continues Friday at the Repco Bathurst 1000, with Race 1 at 8:25am AEDT, live on Fox Sports Channel 506 and Kayo.
