Brewczynski celebrates maiden race win on Friday at Symmons Plains

Wanless-backed driver Cody “The Rooster” Brewczynski has broken through for his maiden race win in the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series after claiming Race 1 at Symmons Plains Raceway today.

Picking up where the series left off in Sydney, Round 2 produced an exciting first day of track action on the Apple Isle with another maiden milestone being claimed by Jayden Wanzek (#90 Mitsubishi Triton) who took the Yuasa Batteries Pole Position Award earlier in the day.

Brewczynski’s flawless performance in Race 1 was preceded by setting the fastest lap in practice – 1m00.2723s – earlier in the morning. Practice was a lively affair with Brewczynski, Adam Marjoram (#1 Isuzu D-MAX ), Wanzek, and Aaron Borg (#4 Isuzu D-MAX) all taking turns lighting up in purple, dropping the fastest time lap after lap. By the end of the session, Brewczynski was on top, more than one and a half seconds faster than Craig Woods’ fastest practice lap in 2022. Whisper-close margins up and down the grid resulted in less than one second covering the top nine and just 1.8s back to 15th.

In qualifying, Wanzek was the only one to dip below the 1-minute mark with a flying 59.9261s lap to claim his maiden Yuasa Batteries Australia Pole Position Award.

At the start of Race 1, Brewczynski got the jump off the line, leading the pack around into turn one, where further down the field Amar Sharma (#9 Mazda BT-50) and Jimmy Vernon – sporting a new black and white themed livery on the #50 Mitsubishi Triton this weekend – connected, sending Sharma back down the order. Wanzek unsuccessfully fought hard to take the lead, keeping the pressure on Brewczynski throughout the 20-minute race, setting a new Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series lap record of 1m00.6012s in the process.

Team Motion Racing’s Aaron Borg finished third despite brake issues compromising his run during the race and smoke coming into the cabin during qualifying, which saw the team pushing hard to get the #4 Isuzu D-MAX ready for the race.

David Sieders (#3 Mazda BT-50) and Craig Woods (#64 Toyota Hilux) rounded out the top five. Sieders and Borg danced for the entire race after the former  speared off the track in Qualifying causing a short red flag and losing his fastest lap time. This was the second red flag period of the day, with another short stoppage in Practice for Holly Espray (#777 Isuzu D-MAX), who struggled with the same mechanical issues that plagued her in Sydney.

Reigning champion Adam Marjoram claimed the Yuasa Hard Charger Award for an incredible drive after starting at the back of the pack due to a penalty from qualifying (for being underweight). As he charged through the pack, The Menace battled with the likes of Paul Morris (#67 Ford Ranger) and the returning Cameron Crick (#7 Mazda BT-50), on his way to finish sixth. Post-race, the Reverse Grid draw resulted in the top six being inverted, putting Marjoram on pole position for Saturday’s Race 2.

Morris greeted the checkered flag in seventh, just ahead of Crick in eighth, David Casey (#782 Mitsubishi Triton) ninth, and Brad Vereker (#96 Toyota HiLux) 10th.

Round 2 of the 2025 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series, held as part of the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440, continues Saturday May 10, with the Reverse Grid race (Race 2) at 8.30am, followed by Race 3 at 1.55pm. Both races will be broadcast live on Kayo and FoxSports 506.
