Borg takes second race win and clinches round honours in Tasmania

Team Motion Racing’s Aaron Borg took out his second race win at Round 2 of the 2025 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series while also clinching the overall round victory at Symmons Plains Raceway, Tasmania.

Coming into Race 4, Borg (#4 Isuzu D-MAX) only needed to finish in front of Cody Brewczynski (#18 Toyota HiLux) to clinch the round win after the Wanless-backed racer claimed his maiden series win on Friday. Borg struggled with inconsistent braking most of the weekend due to a faulty master cylinder, which was replaced before his race-winning run on Saturday afternoon.

The round win was made extra special for Borg, whose wife, Dani, and son, Chase, were in the paddock; a win made even more memorable being Mother’s Day on Sunday.

“Race 4 was great. Even though we didn’t quite get the launch off the line, Marj [Adam Marjoram] got me into Turn 1, but then went a little bit too deep, which gave us the lead again,” Borg said.

“It was an awesome race with massive pressure. I was just trying to get good exits and make no mistakes because Jayden [Wanzek] had me under a lot of pressure. He drove really well, and it was great to have a good pressure battle at the front with him.

“I’m happy to wrap up the weekend with another race win and the round win.”

Brewczynski’s three trips to the podium across the weekend were more than enough to deliver the Sydneysider second overall for the round, ahead of Adam Marjoram (#1 Isuzu D-MAX) in third. Earlier in the weekend, Marjoram reset the fastest V8 SuperUtes lap around Symmons Plains Raceway, which was also a new personal best lap time of 1m00.2529s in Race 2.

Marjoram got the jump off the line in Race 4 to lead the field single file into Turn 1. However, a misstep saw the #1 run wide, allowing not only Borg, but also Wanzek and David Sieders (#3 Mazda BT-50) through, dropping him into fourth on the road. Marjoram would go on to recover third position but was unable to catch second-placed Wanzek, who had been breathing down Borg’s neck for the majority of the race.

Brewczynski finished fourth after fighting back from eighth following a tough opening lap, catching air off the kerb at Turn 3 during his charge through the field. Sieders rounded out the top five, completing a consistent weekend at the pointy end of the field, while Rossi Johnson (#333 Holden Colorado) finished sixth to wrap up a standout weekend for the young Territorian.

The biggest mover and shaker – and Yuasa Batteries Australia Hard Charger recipient – in Race 4 was Jimmy Vernon (#50 Mitsubishi Triton), who started 18th and climbed to seventh, ahead of David Casey (#782 Mitsubishi Triton) and Sherwell in eighth and ninth respectively, while Paul Morris (#67 Ford Ranger) rounded out the top 10.

There were a number of wild moments throughout the race, including for Cameron Crick (#7 Mazda BT-50) who ran wide into the grass to avoid Brad Vereker (#96 Toyota Hilux) parked sideways across the track. Late race contact between Amar Sharma (#9 Mazda BT-50) and Adrian Cottrell (#41 Holden Colorado) at the hairpin sent the latter spinning, while debris flew from the front of the #9.

With Sunday’s race falling on Mother’s Day, drivers took time out to record heartfelt messages of appreciation, while Vernon and Jason Norris (#8 Toyota HiLux) also sported special Mother’s Day tributes on the tailgates of their V8 SuperUtes.

Brewczynski now leads the championship points for the first time in his V8 SuperUtes career on 446 points, followed by Marjoram second (442 points) and Sieders third (429 points). Two-time former champion Borg jumps from 9th after Round 1 to now sit fourth outright.

Momentum is building in the 2025 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series, with a capacity grid of 24 cars expected for Round 3 in Perth. Round 3 will be held from June 6-8 as part of the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440 at CARCO.com.au Raceway, where the category hasn’t raced since 2023. Information about tickets, on-track activities, and how to watch will be released soon.
