Two-time Tyrepower V8 SuperUtes champion Aaron Borg has launched his campaign to reclaim the #1 leading every lap of the season-opening race at Sydney Motorsport Park today (February 21, 20250).
His Team Motion Racing teammate and reigning champion Adam Marjoram (#1 Isuzu D-MAX) improved from his starting position by one grid place to cross the finish line in second, while pole-sitter and Yuasa Batteries Racing racer David Sieders (#3 Mazda BT-50) rounded out the podium in third.
With storm clouds looming and rain threatening, the 23-strong field had their elbows out from the moment the lights went out, reminding spectators why the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series is quickly becoming a fan-favourite for shoulder-rubbing, action-packed racing from start to finish.
Borg set his intention early, while Sieders held on to second for all but the last lap when Marjoram, who was locked in battle with fourth-placed Cody Brewczynski (#18 Toyota HiLux) and fifth-placed Jayden Wanzek (#90 Mitsubishi Triton) for the majority of the 20-minute outing, managed to edge his way around the #3 Mazda BT-50.
Placings in the mid-pack changed hands a number of times throughout the race with Adrian Cottrell (#41 Holden Colorado) and Dave Casey (#782 Mitsubishi Triton) taking advantage of mid-race contact between Ryal Harris (#58 Mazda BT-50) and Craig Woods (#64 Toyota HiLux) at Turn 8 to finish in sixth and seventh respectively.
Fluid Film Racing’s Jimmy Vernon (#50 Mitsubishi Triton) did well to recover to claim eighth place after stalling at the start and dropping eight grid placings before even reaching the control line. Territorian Rossi Johnson (#333 Holden Colorado), who debuted with the Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series at the 2024 season finale, crossed the line in ninth in the #333 Shorebarge Holden Colorado.
Holly Espray (#777 Isuzu D-MAX) rounded out the top 10 continuing to hold her position as the highest-placing female racer in the series in the Uniden HER backed #777. Supercars stalwart Paul Morris (#67 Ford Ranger) finished just outside the top 10, claiming a 12th place finish for his series debut.
Earlier in the day, 2024 Rookie of the Year Wanzek topped time sheets of the first on-track outing of the season and sole practice of the weekend in the #90 Carryboy Racing Mitsubishi Triton. The full field took advantage of the 20-minute session to refine learnings from last week’s Sydney test and make any necessary adjustments ahead of Friday afternoon’s qualifying, where the #3 Yuasa Batteries Racing Mazda BT-50 of Sieders dominated the mid-afternoon session.
The Sieders Racing Team driver claimed the first Yuasa Batteries Pole Position Award in a repeat of his 2024 performance at the Thrifty Bathurst 500, where he also secured pole in the opening round of the season. Pace-setter Sieders jumped to the top of the timing sheets early on with a 1m43.6938s flying lap, ahead of Borg and Marjoram.
Round 1 of the 2025 Tyrepower V8 SuperUte Series continues Saturday, 22 February with the reverse grid race at 12pm AEDT, followed by Race 3 at 3.30pm AEDT at Sydney Motorsport Park as part of the Thrifty Sydney 500. Both races will be broadcast live on Kayo and Fox Sports Channel 506.
